Thank you for this information. My mother had 5 strokes before she died at 96 years of age. My father had dementia and Parkinsons Disease. He died when 82. I am sorry you had a stroke and pray for God's healing be granted to you. Look how you have helped yourself and others. God be with you and so glad You have your body guard, Teegan, to keep you safe!

It should be noted, however, that sunflower oil has been associated with destroying brain cells.

EMR's can dramatically affect sleep. I unplug my internet overnight and I leave my cell phone in another part of the house. I have not yet turned off the current in the bedroom, but as I write this I realize I should probably do that also.

A few years back, I would watch your podcasts and you looked so exhausted all the time. You said often how tired you were because you were getting so little sleep. I was concerned about you.

I am so happy to hear that you have changed and are now getting the restorative sleep that you need and deserve. This article was so interesting and informative. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I'm sorry to hear you had a stroke Dr. Tenpenny.

Sleep and Health - my post on the topic has more info for you. https://open.substack.com/pub/denutrients/p/sleep-and-health?r=os7nw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

And I have been working on a post/document about lymphedema, which turned into a post about stroke, the glymphatic system, and risk of Alzheimer's dementia. I don't feel that my document is done yet, but it has more information for you than your post contains. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/31h09i3p8m9azakzg76f5/Lymphedema-protocol.docx?rlkey=jlxja8wt2u0vsb72p6m6i2xsi&dl=0 Lymphedema protocol -- like a free dietary consult without the personalized nutrition screening.

Interesting post once again: you always manage to talk about something I am deeply interested in! Some metallic poisons won't drain out, especially aluminum. They simply accumulate in the glial areas of the brain's housekeeping system despite a deep slumber, and are precursors to the amyloid-beta tangles leading to Alzheimers. Or in infants, leading to autism and many other behavioural issues. And possibly in teens leading to depression and linked conditions like bulimia (my own research for a teen who is a skinny ballet student but is getting addicted to the adrenalin rush from throwing up - however I can't quote one comprehensive paper on this). Only mineral waters containing silicic acid have a hope of removing aluminum deposits from the brain. Success rate with Alzheimer's is about 20% - compared to zero for drugs! I am sure a good night's rest helps too but it needs a nudge from Chris Exley's magic potion. Let me know if you need "evidence". Cheers

So, are you in favor of the Fiji water that has silica in it??❤️🙏

Expand full comment

Yes, on a maintenance basis. In Germany here I drink a brand called Bad Brambacher (Bad means spring/well) but Volvic is also available. It has high silicic acid and very low fluoride. Other European brands with silicic acid have too much fluoride (natural but not good). In USA you have Fiji - others? In the UK Spritzer or Acilis. NZ has some excellent brands. The water needs to be from young geology not older, worn out rocks like in the UK. Warning "silica" health products don't have this effect - it's different.

You mentioned at the start of the article the brain and its need for cholesterol, there's a surprisingly decent "bbc future" article titled "The Medications That Change Who We Are". Statins figure very promently in it, on the basis of the brain and the connection with cholesterol and behavior. It should come up in search. It's a decent read, with med pub cross references. And today's bbc will likely delete it once too many people take notice of it!

Such interesting information - particularly the part about the brain's ability to metabolize. In my quest to help slow or reverse memory loss in my elderly parents, I came across studies about the effectiveness of a tsp of raw, unfiltered honey (locally-sourced and not mass-produced). It's pure brain food and when taken before bed, it supports the body's ability to produce melatonin naturally (among a host of other benefits.) Anecdotally, the affects on their sleep and memory have noticeably improved.

Great article on the glymphatic system.

I’d like to add to it that in order for the glymphatic system to adequately drain and remove waste/toxicity/etc is to have adequate and proper direction/pressure of flow of cerebrospinal fluid. The primary inadequacy of this system to operate occurs due to a literal mechanical block from atlas and axis misalignment putting a kink on the hose as it enters in to the skull through the foramen magnum. If you’re interested you should read my substack articles Master Reset Part 1-4 going into this in extreme detail. You would be particularly interested in part 4. https://drchw17.substack.com

My quest is to figure out how to get deep sleep. That’s the restorative sleep. I get a lot of REM every night. About 2-3 hours but my deep sleep is elusive. I can even take 1/2 sleeping pill and still no deep sleep. I’ve tried a lot of sleep supplements and cbd but it doesn’t help. Anyone on here have any ideas?

Expand full comment

CoQ10 and magnesium before bed. Does a lot of stuff. They are also finding long-acting progesterone (50 mg is a typical dose) with the supplements does a lot of therapeutic things as well as improves sleep quality a lot. I have been surprised how much.

Expand full comment

Does it help you get into deep sleep? Do you track it. Like do you know your average REM VS DEEP SLEEP per night? I’m 60 and wondering if I could take progesterone. I currently don’t take any hormones.

In addition to previous good comments. Set routine, dark room (dim lights 2 hr before bed), 18.5 C bedroom temp, Butterflies should not drink alcohol (sorry) it breaks up sleep, no blue light or any contact with iPad screens, no clock faces, no phones, don't count sheep - take a mental walk, a story with "details", check EM radiation & proximity of high voltage electricity behind bed. Some bedside lamps emit a lot of EM even when "off" but plugged in (personal experience - I used a Trifield meter). Read books NOT screens and fall asleep within 2 pages! I use "warm" lights with very low wattage in room and never watch TV (otherwise I get mad about being lied to). Lastly never go to bed angry with your spouse - stay up and fight. Seriously, dreams help to strip the bad emotions from unpleasant events. Find a You Tube video with Matt Walker who is the "Sleep Professor" and don't take meds. But this is all free advice, so you'll ignore it - but if I were to send you a bill for $500 I am sure you would resolutely follow this all to the letter. Good luck! Confession - OK, yes I have taken half a melatonin tablet just a few times a year but they give me nightmares and I wake up sleepy.

I do a lot of these things already! And, it was all free info I found on the web. I seldom go to the dr when I can figure out how to treat almost everything and I think most of them have no clue. I found a website that sells protects to protect me from EMF and one you put in between your mattress and it works very well.

Do you track your deep sleep? I am thinking not based on your comments. I feel very restored when I sleep my my watch says I’m not getting much deep sleep. I used to think REM was all that mattered but recently discovered deep sleep is more important.

Expand full comment

I do not track my deep sleep; I probably should keep a log! Hmm. I can tell I am getting more of it - that restorative type which I need very much (I have ME) My dreams are deeper as well, more substantive and much less traumatic. I wake 2-3 times a night, but I am building up longer time in the deeper sleep. If I can get 4-5.5+ hours of the deep sleep in one of the periods, my brain works much better. I have to maintain sleep hygiene habits - no tablets and so forth past a certain time. I have had some longer sleep shifts, 6 hours, 7 hours on occasion. It is taking a while to reset my rhythms. I add 5 mg of melatonin now and then, sometimes 50mg of trazadone, also I use chamomile extract and lemon balm.

& keep away from fluoride in all its insidious manifestations. That F- ion wrecks the pineal gland and reduces melatonin release. It also amplifies the uptake of highly toxic aluminum ions in the gut.

I use better and better toothpaste and definitely stay away from fluoride! Another lie perpetrated on innocent people by their government and the medical industrial complex!

My EMF protection is from EMFSOL.com. They are the best company I’ve found out there and have research to back up their products. Let me know what you think if you go to their website!

How many hours per day do you stare at a cell phone? How many hours per day is a cell phone less than 3 feet away from your body?

I like to make measurements but I don't use any sleep tracking, I have measured radiation with a Trifield meter. Also those devices we used to call "stud finders" (ladies, please don't get excited) are now more sophisticated and can be set to "metal" or "current" to find wires behind the wall. So I measured radio frequency radiation, electric field strength and magnetic field strength once to figure out if my bedroom was friend or foe. If you can cut these fields and radiation at the source then you don't need to buy strange objects (that I am deeply skeptical about unless it's a complete metal screen with grounding and proven to work via measurements.) If you're a musician, practicing a new or tricky piece sure makes a brain drowsy.

I have been a meditator for 53 years. A peaceful mind is a mind capable of deep sleep. Hemi-Sync CD's are helpful. Mark Taylor's INTO THE LIGHT series is my favorite - though guided meditations are not for everyone. Besides doing a few stretching exercises at bedtime, it is helpful to practice deep breathing. Inhale, hold the breath three seconds, exhale slowly. Four of these relax me completely. AVOID THE NEWS.

AVOID THE NEWS because it's not news at all. It's programming.

And in those rare times when we are getting actual news (e.g. fires in east Tennessee) it is always depressing and scary. We need to focus on our loved ones and family & hope for the best. Dwelling on pain and evil is self-destructive.
