Me: early to bed, early to rise and I can take 10 or 15 minute naps during the day at the drop of a hat. I hadn't appreciated how important that might be!

The role of the glymphatic system in overall health, particularly as it relates to hormones as well as clearing the "brain garbage" is profound. But I think you'll find as you delve deeper, the prevailing assumption that it does nothing during the day is not quite accurate😉 Especially when you consider photonic and optogenetics.

The glymphatic, lymphatic systems are the most important waste removal systems we have, long term. The hepatobilliary functionality is the short term, almost emergency system back up. If your lymph/glymphs are functioning well, the stress and strain on your liver, kidneys, colon, are much lower, which means they last longer.

Your sleep hygiene protecols are only second to your light hygiene protecols😉

And they are as equal to in importance as the benefit of daily movement.🤗🤗

I went 10 years without a good nights sleep. I was like a zombie. Estrogen patch changed my life for the better. I’m finally myself again.

Interesting. My initial interest in getting into science was to decypher the stuff of sleep and eliminate the need as well.

My quest is to figure out how to get deep sleep. That’s the restorative sleep. I get a lot of REM every night. About 2-3 hours but my deep sleep is elusive. I can even take 1/2 sleeping pill and still no deep sleep. I’ve tried a lot of sleep supplements and cbd but it doesn’t help. Anyone on here have any ideas?

Great article on the glymphatic system.

I’d like to add to it that in order for the glymphatic system to adequately drain and remove waste/toxicity/etc is to have adequate and proper direction/pressure of flow of cerebrospinal fluid. The primary inadequacy of this system to operate occurs due to a literal mechanical block from atlas and axis misalignment putting a kink on the hose as it enters in to the skull through the foramen magnum. If you’re interested you should read my substack articles Master Reset Part 1-4 going into this in extreme detail. You would be particularly interested in part 4. https://drchw17.substack.com

Such interesting information - particularly the part about the brain's ability to metabolize. In my quest to help slow or reverse memory loss in my elderly parents, I came across studies about the effectiveness of a tsp of raw, unfiltered honey (locally-sourced and not mass-produced). It's pure brain food and when taken before bed, it supports the body's ability to produce melatonin naturally (among a host of other benefits.) Anecdotally, the affects on their sleep and memory have noticeably improved.

You mentioned at the start of the article the brain and its need for cholesterol, there's a surprisingly decent "bbc future" article titled "The Medications That Change Who We Are". Statins figure very promently in it, on the basis of the brain and the connection with cholesterol and behavior. It should come up in search. It's a decent read, with med pub cross references. And today's bbc will likely delete it once too many people take notice of it!

Interesting post once again: you always manage to talk about something I am deeply interested in! Some metallic poisons won't drain out, especially aluminum. They simply accumulate in the glial areas of the brain's housekeeping system despite a deep slumber, and are precursors to the amyloid-beta tangles leading to Alzheimers. Or in infants, leading to autism and many other behavioural issues. And possibly in teens leading to depression and linked conditions like bulimia (my own research for a teen who is a skinny ballet student but is getting addicted to the adrenalin rush from throwing up - however I can't quote one comprehensive paper on this). Only mineral waters containing silicic acid have a hope of removing aluminum deposits from the brain. Success rate with Alzheimer's is about 20% - compared to zero for drugs! I am sure a good night's rest helps too but it needs a nudge from Chris Exley's magic potion. Let me know if you need "evidence". Cheers

I gave my parents lots of headaches as their child who did not want to go to bed. Like you I thought it was a waste of time. I’m still a night owl. But I’m learning I’d better change that habit. Thank you for this.

And I have been working on a post/document about lymphedema, which turned into a post about stroke, the glymphatic system, and risk of Alzheimer's dementia. I don't feel that my document is done yet, but it has more information for you than your post contains. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/31h09i3p8m9azakzg76f5/Lymphedema-protocol.docx?rlkey=jlxja8wt2u0vsb72p6m6i2xsi&dl=0 Lymphedema protocol -- like a free dietary consult without the personalized nutrition screening.
